Dallas is the shorter path to Texas, the Gulf states and Mexico; Chicago is the more balanced choice when your users are split between the coasts and the north-east. The two sit a short hop apart, so the answer is often both: one metro carrying traffic, the other holding a standby. Dallas stocks the same range as Chicago, so a two-metro build does not mean two different specifications.
