Private networking and server management in Dallas

These functions come with every Dallas server at no extra charge. You pay for the server, for additional IP blocks and for bandwidth beyond your plan's allowance.

Private networks and firewall groups

Put your Dallas servers on a layer 2 network of their own, then extend it to your servers in Chicago or any of our other datacenters. A web cluster split between the two cities can share sessions, caches and deploys over it without touching a public interface. Keep database and Proxmox clusters inside one datacenter, because their nodes wait on each other's replies.

  • Jumbo frames at MTU 9000, with your own 802.1Q VLAN tags carried inside the network.
  • Delivered tagged on the server's existing port or untagged on its second port, and one server can join several networks.
  • Firewall groups allow, block or rate-limit inbound traffic by protocol, port range and source network, on our access switches before it reaches the server.
  • A rule change applies at once. Groups filter your public addresses only, so traffic on the private network never meets them.

Managed from the cloud console

KVM, virtual media, power control and the hardware readings go through each server's management controller, so they keep working while the operating system is down.

  • Browser KVM

The server's screen and keyboard in a browser tab from firmware onwards, open only to the IP address you name. Fix a broken fstab or a bad firewall rule without a ticket.

  • Virtual media

Upload an ISO of up to 20 GiB and mount it as a drive to boot an installer or a rescue system.

  • Metrics

Inbound and outbound traffic graphs with daily totals, plus power draw, power supply health, temperatures and fan speeds read from the hardware.

  • Power control

Power on, shut down or restart, gracefully or by force. A controller reset revives a KVM session that will not open, without restarting the server.

  • OS installs and iPXE

Reinstall from our image catalogue or netboot your own iPXE script.

  • Activity log and security scan

Every console and API action on the server is logged, and a scan lists the open ports and services on each of its public addresses.

Each of these is an API call too, with keys you issue in the console.
